This gives the multiple diversities in the city true representation. The Final Cut also brings other residents of Revachol to life with the total inclusion of one million professionally voice acted words by actors from all over the world. Especially when you hear the voice of your inner thoughts being portrayed by Jazz musician Lenval Brown, whose deep dark tones will pull you right into the game. Player and character dialogue are heavy in this deep narrative journey and that is one of the main improvements made over the other versions, it’s now all accompanied by a voiceover, so it’s less skim reading and a far more immersive experience. It’s not game-breaking thought but is worth mentioning as something you’ll just need to get used to. Movement on the left analogue stick is fine but the clunkiness comes from the right stick which can be hit and miss at selecting targets of interest. The control system feels like it was made for PC and that conversion to the Nintendo console is problematic. The creators are made up of novelists, artists and musicians and the result is a brilliant satire that is likened more to a classic painting evoking emotions and forcing you to think about how your decisions have an impact on those around you and how you must try to make the best choice even though it’s sometimes just the lesser evil. Yes at times the game hits controversial notes, but it’s a social commentary made up of dark parody and when a player does misbehave the game punishes you for doing so. ![]() The Australian Classification banned the game for release initially due to well, stupid reasons, but that was reevaluated and thankfully they came to their senses. While the game received “Game of the Year” nods from several publications including some perfect or near-perfect scores, the team never stopped working to make it even better and the result is Disco Elysium: The Final Cut available now on PC and all consoles including making its debut on Nintendo Switch which is where I have been lucky enough to experience it. I'll give it a 7/10 for being a 10/10 experience that is brought down by three technical issues which each knock a point off my rating.Disco Elysium is an isometric role-playing game inspired by the Infinity Engine style games like Planescape Torment, developed by ZA/UM and released in 2019. I still recommend it though if you can handle the issues I brought forward. So this may just be a very buggy game in general. So all in all this is a very good game that's bogged down by its poor technical state on Switch though I heard some of these problems like ridiculous loading or crashes even carry over to other platforms as well. It doesn't happen too often but when it does it really sucks. Sometimes you loose several minutes of progress and have to go through several loading screens to get to where you were before. It's not game breaking but annoying when your character just wanders off in the opposite direction of where you wanted him to go before you course correct and he actually performs the intended action. I don't know if it's pathfinding issues but sometimes you need to repeat inputs in order for the character to actually do the right thing. The controls don't always do what you want them to do. Wish they had found a less intrusive solution. However there are times where you go through several long load screens in quick succession and that stuff really adds up. The loading is not great but OK in isolation. ![]() But what genuinely bothers me are the load times, the buggy controls and occasional crashes. I don't mind that the Switch version has regular framedrops because I honestly don't think it matters for this type of game. ![]() The technical side of things is a lot rougher though. A fantastic combination of RPG and murder mystery game as long as you are OK with lots of dialoge. This one is hard to judge because the game itself is legitimately a 9/10 or even 10/10. This one is hard to judge because the game itself is Edit: the severe loading issues have been fixed, elevating the score from a 7 to an 8.
